Putting The Door in C tier is really controversial, IMO they're the greatest American rock band. Also The Who and Deep Purple deserve a higher tier (putting Boston and Chicago in the higher tiers than these two more significant bands makes no sense to me). And based on the 70's stuff ZZ Top is absolutely classic rock. And KISS is missing from the list (I would put them in F) and Thin Lizzy too (I'd put them in A).

I think the repetitiveness and "heave ho" knuckle dragging vibe to the sing is a strength. The song has a primal yet reigned in quality to it. I think the intro heavy prior to clean guitar is perfect. And justice for all isn't as clean cut, immaculately arranged nor polished as master of puppets, but that is one of it's many strengths. The album has a more progressive sound and was made at a time cds were on the rise and longer album run times. This album has most of the strengths of master of puppets and where it lacks it makes up for in it's change to a more progressive style and unique sounds and harmonies used.

Varg Vikernes is a Neo Nazi sympathizer, a murderer and arsonist. Ordinarily it is good advice to separate the artist from the art - and it is wise to do that with perhaps somebody like Wagner who actually does have an extensive musical vocabulary and certain genius. Even then it may be difficult to separate Wagner from his anti semitism. With Varg Vikernes however, I believe the mediocrity of the music is quite a reflection of the mediocrity of his personality with views on the sociopathic spectrum and with a vision of beauty that is childish and unrefined no matter its sincerity. You can’t expect much brilliance from such a primitive state of consciousness and broken intellect.
